Cross-country skiing is a winter sport in which skiers move across snow-covered terrain on long skis.
Skiers rely on their own movement, usually aided by ski poles. Cross-country skiing can be classic or free style. In the classic style, skiers move along the cross-country ski track on parallel skis, while in the free style, skiers move forward in alternating steps and use the so-called skating lanes at the edge of the cross-country ski track.
The Wildkogel-Arena is a popular venue for cross-country skiers, with a total of 30 km of cross-country ski trails. The tracks are well maintained and groomed, making them ideal for beginners and advanced cross-country skiers alike. One of the best trails is the "Pinzgau Loipe", which allows you to explore the entire Salzach valley towards Krimml, Mittersill and Zell am See. This trail is the highlight of the cross-country ski runs of the Wildkogel Arena.
If you have already completed the Pinzgau Loipe, you can return to the starting point either by ski bus or by train with the Pinzgauer Lokalbahn. This option is convenient and flexible, as skiers can depart and arrive at their desired destination at any time.
The train and bus run regularly between the Wildkogel Arena and the surrounding villages during the winter season, making it a very practical and easily accessible transport option for skiers.
