Blue lake (Obersulzbach valley)

The Blausee, also known as the Blue Lake, is one of Austria's most beautiful natural attractions and is located in the Obersulzbachtal valley.

The blue colour of the lake's waters offers visitors a magnificent sight, and the area around the lake offers many opportunities for excursions and relaxation. The Blausee is carried by the Obersulzbach stream and the water is a type of peat water, blue in colour due to minerals leached from the bedrock.

The lake surroundings are stunningly beautiful and visitors can enjoy the beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests.

The history of the Blausee is also interesting, as the lake once included a small chapel built by the locals in the Middle Ages in the Obersulzbachtal valley, where the lake is today, the ruins of which can still be seen today beside the lake.

In the 19th century, a mill was also built in the area around the lake, which was powered by the hydroelectric power provided by the lake.

In 1987 the wildlife area around Blausee was destroyed by flooding and in 2007 restored the natural recreation area.

Today, the lake area is an excellent tourist destination, where visitors can find many excellent opportunities for recreational activities.

Overall, Blausee is a place to visit for nature lovers. The historical significance and special beauty of the lake, combined with the tranquillity of the surrounding mountains and forests, make it a great place to relax and recharge.
